About... beta 1.1

The current version FeedFarm is frozen at beta 1.1. What you see now was more of a personal “proof-of-concept.” In a lot of ways this was a quick and dirty experiment to see if I could pull in RSS feeds and format then with a tab-like interface. I reached those goals.

The problem now is load time. The actual guts of this page are less than elegant. All the headlines are actually loaded when the page is viewed, and they are hidden from view until their tab is selected. That is a lot of information to pull down, especially if the user isn't going to bother with all the sections. As well as taxing the PHP back end that acquires the feeds and processes them when called during the page rendering process. It is a little to messy for my taste - there has to be a better way.

So public development of this page is now frozen. In the mean time I'll be testing dynamic AJAX solutions (geeky “Web 2.0-ish” code combinations) to streamline the page and bring the core to standards compliance.

My end goal is total user control. Being able to order and add your own feeds. But one step at a time.
